After what feels like an eternity of anticipation, the ground has officially been broken on a brand-new school dedicated to supporting students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). The new South View Academy, nestled in Osgodby, a stone's throw from Selby, is poised to become a vital hub for 100 children aged three to 19 who require specialist teaching and tailored support. The expansive 2.1-hectare site will house a modern teaching block, integrated sports facilities to foster physical well-being, a welcoming dining area, and essential parking. They've begun laying the foundations for the two-story building, with the concrete base for the ground floor expected to be completed this very week. Representatives from Bowmer + Kirkland shared that the exciting work of constructing the building's roof is slated to commence in mid-April.
Keir Mather MP, representing Selby, shared his profound emotions, calling the school's construction his "proudest moment" as the local Member of Parliament. He eloquently highlighted that the true heroes are the SEND parents, whose relentless fight has brought this project to fruition. He emphasized, "I have spoken to countless families for whom this school will be a lifeline."
